Professor Lisa Harvey-Smith is an astrophysicist and a Professor of Practice at the University of New South Wales, Australia. As the former Australian Government Women in STEM Ambassador (2018-24), she was responsible for increasing the participation of women and girls in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) across Australia. Harvey-Smith has served on numerous advisory groups on STEM industry, education, and workforce development, including the Australian Space Agency and Questacon. She has served on the judging panel for the APEC Australia Women in Research Fellowship, the Australian Museum Eureka Prizes, and the Australian Women in STEM Decadal Plan expert advisory group. Harvey-Smith previously worked in telescope operations, commissioning and research leadership roles at Australia’s national research agency, CSIRO. Harvey-Smith is an accomplished author of astronomy books for adults and children, which are published worldwide.
