Akira Nishii is a machine learning engineer aspiring to leverage AI in biology to make medicines more accessible. Originally from Mie, Japan, he graduated from the University of Michigan with Bachelor’s degrees in Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, and Medical Sociology. He is interested in developing virtual cell models that simulate cellular responses to chemical and genetic perturbations. He has conducted research at Michigan Medicine and the University of Michigan School of Public Health. He has also worked as a data and ML engineer at 2seventy bio (now Regeneron Cell Medicines), and he founded Perch, a software platform for researchers. He is excited to pursue a Master's in Biomedical Data Science at Stanford University.
