Chantelle Pereira is a high-achieving cognitive science graduate from Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. She is an empathetic, resilient, conscientious young woman who wants to make a lasting impact on the world. Passionate about neuroscience, Chantelle is eager to research the intersection of neuroscience and endometriosis at Yale University to reduce the suffering experienced in a disease that affects 1 in 7 Australians. She is excited to collaborate with global scientists and leverage science to positively impact women’s health worldwide. By exemplifying her values of curiosity, courageousness, altruism and independence, she hopes to be a role model for other women in STEM.
Chantelle co-founded the Cognitive and Brain Sciences (COGS) Student Society at Macquarie University and was the winner of the 2022 Emotiv Prize for Cognitive and Brain Sciences. She has co-authored a paper on endometriosis in the Journal of Psychosomatic Research. While completing her undergraduate degree in cognitive and brain sciences, Chantelle was selected as a 2023 Quad Fellow Elect. Chantelle worked in the Westpac Graduate Program on youth and family banking for 18 months before accepting the 2024 Quad Fellowship to undertake her Masters in Chronic Disease Epidemiology at Yale University.
As a nature enthusiast, Chantelle loves to spend her time exploring Australia’s sunny beaches, staying active, hiking and chasing waterfalls. She has been recognised for her extraordinary commitment to community service through her mentoring work, where she dedicates time to helping people from various cultures and backgrounds. She also enjoys learning languages, engaging with children, taking new opportunities as they arise and has big dreams to continue travelling the world. Pre-Covid, she played basketball for ten years and competed at state-level chess tournaments.
