Debarun Mukherjee is a first year PhD student at the Origins Lab, University of Chicago where he is working toward a PhD in Geochemistry and Cosmochemistry. He did his Undergraduate and Masters from Presidency University, Kolkata, India in Geology and Geochemistry and summer Fellowships at IISC Bengaluru and Banaras Hindu University. His masters thesis focused on tracing the cycling of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) in Earth's crust. He started his PhD at the Origins lab, where he aims to trace the journey of REEs in the solar system ranging from primitive Solar system materials (meteorites) to exotic terrestrial rocks like carbonatites. Outside of academia, he enjoys writing prose and poetry when he is indoors and when outside, he loves long walks, hikes and bike rides along Lake Michigan. He has hiked the Himalayas, Alps and Rockies. He hopes to visit all National Parks in the US.
